Charleston, SC — home of Rainbow Row, Fort Sumter, Angel Oak AND…. lots and lots of mommy bloggers.
Over the last few years, it has seemed like Charleston has become mommy blogger Mecca as top bloggers have moved to the city in droves.
With their sunset pics and videos of boat rides through dolphin-filled marshes, their Southern Charmed lives look idyllic. The days of a Charleston mommy bloggers (who most actually live in Mount Pleasant) are spent lunching, going to yoga classes, and attending brand sponsored garden parties which lead your Instagram feed to become overrun with very similar party pics.
Sometimes their lives seem a little too perfect and they aren’t the bloggers I turn to for mommy advice or tips, but regularly check them out for fashion tips and lifestyle envy.
These are the six that I gravitate to most often (I grouped the similar ones together for ease of scrolling):
Liz and Megan are both moms of three (Megan’s third child, a baby boy, was just born a few weeks ago) and both feature their children frequently in their content. Liz shares the antics of her three active little boys. Megan shares more artsy photos and videos of her children.
Both of their feeds are heavy in what I like to call “attainable, but hip” mom style — think dresses, feminine blouses, and lots of patterns. Liz is all about color and fun. Megan is more classic and traditional.
They both often share “real” moments from their lives - think photo dumps from their stylish weekends with their families.
Liz’s focus besides sharing scenes with her children is thoughts on motherhood and recipes. I enjoyed this recent post on “Six things I do for myself when my days feel out of control” and a post with a yummy recipe of tomatoes and burrata. Liz also just started a podcast with her husband Dave that is surprisingly hilarious and well worth a listen.
Megan’s feed is filled more more travel and home design content. Her family travels semi-regularly, including their recent trip to Harbour Island. They also seem to be always selling, renovating or moving homes. They just moved into a new home AND they just bought a vacation home on a river nearby so lots of home design content.
Fashion content remains the dominant content on their feeds and they do feature many of the same fashion sponsors — J. Crew, Shopbop and Sezane being frequent features.
Jillian Eversole and Kristin Chambless
Jillian and Kristin have smaller follower counts than Liz and Megan, but are frequent contributors to the Charleston mommy blogger scene. They are both very preppy and share only chic highlights into their lives. Think less “real” mom moments and more stylized snapshots and both travel frequently.
Jillian, mom of two small boys, popped onto my radar as her youngest son shares a birthday with my daughter. She posts infrequently on her blog and has been very open recently about her struggles with miscarriages. Most of her feed is pics of her children.
Kristin has one young boy and her feed is mainly focused on home design. Her style isn’t my home style, think very traditional and preppy, but her home is gorgeous and her design ideas are intriguing.
Hilary is my favorite Charleston blogger and feels the most “real” and is the most focused on mom tips and recipes. She feels less manicured and her life feels the most relatable with lots of home DIY projects. She is pregnant with her second child and I’m looking forward to her pregnancy content. She shares honest thoughts about her struggles with motherhood, and features outfit styling tips that feel relatable.
Julia is one of the top Instagram influencers of any industry with her 1.3 million followers. Nothing about her is attainable or down-to-earth. You visit her account to see a life that you can never afford or will never get.
None of her pictures are candid or “real”. She shares over-stylized and coifed photos of herself, her fancy outfits, her two daughters (named Clementine and Marigold in clothes that are never dirty or wrinkled), and her large house that they are always renovating. I really enjoyed her content and her outfits when she was in San Francisco, but she and husband have leaned heavily into the 1% lifestyle once moving to Charleston (and the many brand partnerships that support that lifestyle). But their pictures are beautiful and she has a huge sponsorship deal with Amazon and I have found some good kid clothes and toys through her links.
Honorable mentions: Chassity Evans and Gray Benko
Both Chassity and Gray have older pre-teen children which is a rarity of the top mommy bloggers. Check out Chassity for her stunning vacation home in the Bahamas and her frequent blog post round ups of fashion and decor finds.
Gray doesn’t post often anymore now that she is busy hosting an interior design show on the Magnolia Network, but I love her quirky home design.
